GWYG, Ep. 109: Two Women With a Microphone

BREAKING NEWS! 2000s indie darling Zooey Deschanel was in the news this week, as Katy Perry revealed that she used to pretend to be the actress in order to go wild at clubs in LA. This little factoid delivered a rush of serotonin to your favorite trash podcast hosts, so of course, we had to discuss it. Happy Holidays from the GWYGH crew!

GWYGH, Ep. 099: Tougher Than Rats

You heard it here first folks: Kate is officially tougher than rats. It's a good thing, too -- you need to be tough to get through the upcoming social isolation, but thankfully we can get through this together... as long as we have the new Animal Crossing game! Janine and Kate reminisce about old animal crossing, how mean villagers used to be, and their perfect animal crossing themed crime.

Thank you so much to Paul Ryberg of Plug-in Missing and The Minute Pod for our awesome theme song! Did you know our theme is about 20 seconds long, meaning you can sing it to yourself while you wash your hands? Now you do! Stay healthy out there, friends!

GWYGH, Ep. 076: Top H8

For the final microsode, Kate and Janine touch on a topic they've honestly avoided for too long: MySpace. Yes, we all remember the embarrassing notes and high angle photos and we won't let you forget. Sorry!

Guess what? Your favorite trash content is coming back into style... After this final microsode, we'll go back to our usual podcast schedule! Tell your friends!

Thanks so much to Paul Ryberg of Plug-in Missing and The Minute Pod for our awesome theme!

GWYGH, Ep. 073: Earn the Chorus

Janine is going to be out of the country for the summer, so instead of sacrificing the trash for our lovely listeners, we have decided to do a series of micro-sodes, where we only have 7 1/2 minutes to talk about a topic of our choosing. Appropriately, the first topic is Hit-Clips, a digital audio player of the early 2000s that only played small clips from your favorite songs.

GWYGH, Ep. 069.5: Bracelet Bylaws

No matter what decade it is, parents will always be scared and confused by the weird trends of their children and often come up with bizarre explanations for their behavior, sometimes even banning toys, fashion, or media because of its supposed connotations. One such moral panic was the jelly bracelet of the early 2000s, known by some concerned parents and news outlets as "sex bracelets." Janine and Kate discuss a variety of bracelet trends from the 2000s as well as their experiences with sex ed.

Thanks to Paul Ryberg for the awesome theme song! Listen to his podcasts, The Minute Pod and Plug-in Missing.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 031: Bad At Living

What do you do when you've amassed mostly useless knowledge of a decade of pop culture? Wipe the board at 2000s trivia, of course! Janine and Kate play a 2000s trivia card game and, once they get frustrated with it, have fun creating their own questions.

Thank you to Paul Ryberg of Minute Pod and Plug-in Missing for our amazing theme song. We've started a Patreon! We would love it if you'd support us! You can find us at patreon.com/hatepodcast.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 013: McMansion Hell

Imagine, if you will, that it's 2002 and you have no monetary limits or guidelines to building your dream house. Would you look to build a house that was perfect for your family's space needs? Or would you want to combine all your favorite design elements from centuries of agriculture, tossing simplicity and usability to the wind? Kate Wagner joins Janine to discuss how media like Cribs (2000) and The Simple Life (2003) combined with the suburban paranoia to shape housing trends in the 2000s.

Kate is the author behind the viral blog McMansion Hell (www.mcmansionhell.com). Additionally, they contribute to Curbed, Atlas Obscura, and 99 Percent Invisible. Find them on Twitter: @mcmansionhell.

GWYGH, Mini Ep. 006: No Headphones On

Remember when you'd all crowd around a computer while someone made you watch their YouTube playlist of funny videos? Chances are that a song or two from The Lonely Island graced that experience. Our guest Charis Dillon discusses SNL Digital Shorts of the 2000s as well as some of The Lonely Island's top hits. GWYGH, Ep. 004: Hostile Work Environment

In the very first episode of 2018, Janine and Kate discuss the absolute plethora of early 2000s media centering around romance in the White House as they consider their hardest decision yet: whether to watch First Daughter (2004) or Chasing Liberty (2004), two movies that are nearly identical in plot.
